In Treatment of Tuberculosis (TB) Akurit LD Tablet is a combination of medicines that is used to treat tuberculosis, an infectious disease that mainly affects the lungs but can affect other parts of the body as well. It kills as well as stops the growth of infection causing bacteria and helps in treating the infection. Take it in the dose and duration advised by the doctor. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cured. Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor as doing so may cause the infection to return or worsen. Follow your doctor?s instructions carefully to get maximum benefit.

How to use
Follow your doctor's guidance regarding the dose and duration of this medication. Ingest it without breaking or crushing. Do not chew, crush or break it. Akurit LD Tablet is to be taken empty stomach. Avoid Akurit LD Tablet with tyramine-rich food such as cheese, smoked fish, meats and some types of beer.
How it works
Akurit LD Tablet is a combination of two antibiotics: Rifampicin and Isoniazid, which treats tuberculosis (TB). Rifampicin works by inactivating a bacterial enzyme (RNA-polymerase) which is required by TB bacteria to make essential proteins and to reproduce. Isoniazid prevents these bacteria from forming their own protective covering. Together, they kill the bacteria and eradicate the infection.
Unsafe: It is unsafe to consume alcohol while taking Akurit LD Tablet , as it may lead to symptoms such as flushing, increased heart rate, nausea, thirst, chest pain, and low blood pressure, known as a Disulfiram reaction.
Seek medical advice from your doctor: Akurit LD Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Doctor consultation is advised.
Safe when prescribed by an expert: Akurit LD Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.
Not Safe: Akurit LD Tablet may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive. Akurit LD Tablet can cause fits, mental health problems and optic neuritis (inflammation of the optic nerve that may cause loss of vision.) This may affect your driving ability.
Caution Advised: Akurit LD Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Akurit LD Tablet may be needed. Doctor consultation is advised.

What if I forget to take it?
If a dose of Akurit LD Tablet is missed, take it promptly. However, if your next dose is approaching, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Avoid doubling the dose.
